This style of infantry insignia was meant for use by officers but it can be seen on headgear from all ranks. Units from New England used many of these privately purchased Infantry insignia.
The horn is made of stamped brass and meas. approx. 3.00 inches wide. The stamp had lines cut into the body of the horn to give the impression of being embroidered.
This one is in mint condition and is very clean. The reverse has three attachment wires.
This is a first class example of this Civil War insignia.
