Original Civil War Model 1858 corrugated-pattern tin canteen, often called the “bullseye” pattern. The body consists of two circular sections of pressed-tin soldered together at the rim. The bullseye or corrugated pattern of concentric rings began in 1861 as an effort to increase the durability of the item.

Canteen body has a “push” in the center on one side. A dirty blue wool cover has a 3” x 3” piece missing on one side and a crescent-shaped area worn off on the other side. Otherwise, the wool remains securely sewn onto the canteen body. Pewter spout and strap brackets are intact. Spout has Philadelphia maker’s stamp (Hadden, Porter & Booth).  No shoulder sling, no stopper. [jet][ph:L]
