MODEL 1858 SMOOTHSIDE CANTEEN WITH COVER AND STRAP

$325.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2020-62

The model 1858 canteen was the most popular canteen of the Civil War period. Canteen measures approximately 7 ¾” in diameter. It is covered in brown wool. The cover is complete and in good condition with water stains and some soiling. The stitched seam has one 2 ½” separation.

The three sling loops and spout are all present. The spout is unmarked. This is a New York Depot canteen and it still has an iron chain connected from one of the side strap brackets to the stopper.

An original cotton shoulder strap remains on the canteen.  It has been knotted in several places to adjust the length. It is complete and unbroken.

This is a solid example of a complete Civil War smooth-side canteen.  [jet]
