From Auburn, ME, Post No. 47, GAR collection. Non-regulation canteen, most likely a Confederate “trophy” brought back from the war. Small in circular size, 5.25 x 1.875” in depth. Three piece item, sides sealed to center piece containing sling struts and .75” diameter spout. Remnant of linen strap strung between lower down sling struts. Exhibits minor dings. Else VG plus. Small rectangular museum tape, no. “106”, attached to one side; museum tag attached with period ink notations: “Auburn / Me.” and “post No. 47”. Handsome Maine GAR collector’s piece. [jp]
