Civil War Model 1858 Bullseye pattern, Philadelphia Depot tin canteen is in good to very good condition. Issued to Union troops in the field, this canteen exhibits five reinforcing rings extruded on each side. Canteen is wrapped in a dark brown, coarse wool covering that shows four small areas of thinning with some tin exposure. Pewter spout is unmarked and has a ½” long section of the rim broken off. No maker’s stamp. Has its full original linen shoulder sling as well as its original cotton or ‘canteen twine’ string that secures the cork stopper to the iron strap loop. A very good accoutrement addition to any Civil War personal grouping.
