CONFEDERATE FORKED-TONGUE, “WISH-BONE,” BELT BUCKLE

$395.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1179-1239

This distinctive Confederate waistbelt buckle was widely produced during the war, in several sizes and with minor variations in construction. It is frequently seen in armed images of Confederate soldiers and, along with fixed tongue buckles, is a basic piece in a CS collection.

The tongue on this specimen is in place and complete with both prongs. The brass has a nice even green/brown tone. The plate measures 93mm x 62mm with the frame having been cast quite thin. There is a crack and a break, just to the left and right of the cross bar on one side, and likely due to the thickness (or lack thereof) of the frame. The plate still retains its “body curve” and remains quite attractive.

This is a nice-looking example of a distinctive and classic “Johnny Reb” buckle. This piece remains extremely displayable.  [jet][ph:L]
