Post- Civil War era belt would have been worn by an officer in the Maryland state militia or Maryland National Guard. The outside of the leather belt is covered in 4 parallel rows of gold tape on a gold and red backing. Interior of belt is brown leather. Leather is wrinkled and has some light crazing but is still supple. Attached to the belt is a wonderful two piece tongue and wreath cast belt plate with the Maryland state seal in the center. Original gilt is bright and plate has excellent detail.
