This plate consists of two pieces, the tongue and the wreath.
The tongue has a keeper along one edge that has a linear decoration that almost looks like a false embroidered pattern. The tongue has a very pronounced spread-winged eagle perched on a US shield surrounded by 13 five-pointed stars.
The wreath piece has a keeper to match the one on the tongue while the wreath itself is decorated with laurel.
When interlocked the two pieces match perfectly. The overall condition of the plate is excellent.
This plate was used from the 1860’s to the 1880’s.
