Brass coated iron bit complete with curb chain and rein rings. The arms of the bit are straight with a low port running between them. Each arm has a rosette opposite the base of the port. These rosettes appear to have been cast in one piece with the body of the arm. The rosettes have an early spread winged eagle at center surrounded by a rope border that in turn is surrounded by laurel leaves and flowers. Some of the brass coating has chipped off in the area where the curb chain attaches to the bit. Port is not coated and shows some light pitting. Curb chain is complete and in very good condition. Bits of this style and this early are hard to come by.
