This is a seldom encountered item today, that was a mainstay of 19th century armies. This decorative spade-shaped tip, or finial, would have been found atop most military flag staffs. Used for the various guidons, standards, and National Colors.

This consists of a heavy cast brass spade-shaped spear tip with threaded stem that would have been screwed into a socket. The piece measures 5.6” long overall, and 4” at the widest point of the spade.

The tip is full form with light wear and old scratches. The brass has a nicely aged natural patina.  [jet][ph:L]
