“Wade Hampton / So. Ca”. Framed in antique brown and gold, 13.625” x 10, w/modern black paper back w/hang-wire. Oval portrait, 3” x 4, cut signature, 2.125” x 1.25, double matted in light and dark gray. Light gray matte attractively embossed w/gilt. Overall condition fine, w/pristine smooth cut signature.
Wade Hampton was a wealthy South Carolina planter and slaveholder who served as Army of Northern Virginia cavalry commander during the war, and later as South Carolina governor (1876-79) and two terms of U.S. Senator (1879-1891).
