This woven canvas belt was made by the Hurlburt Company as evidenced by the three blue horizontal lines worked into the belt. It holds fifty .30 caliber rounds in loops that are sewn to the belt.
Plate is a reproduction Model 1887 heavy stamped brass buckle with an oval US at center. The reverse of the tongue is marked “ANSON MILLS, PAT. FEB 1, 1881, T.C. ORNDORFF SOLE MANF. WORCESTOR, MASS. U.S.A.”
The belt and plate are in good used condition with light surface dirt to the canvas and a nice patina on the brass with some minor spots of oxidation. Buckle operates properly.
Attached to the belt is This is the Krag – Jorgensen bayonet used on the model 1892 Krag rifle. From point to pommel the drawn bayonet meas. approx. 16.00 inches long. The blade meas. approx. 11.50 inches with a central fuller that is approx. 8.00 inches long. The blade is semi-bright with some mottling and scattered hints of blue. Ricasso is marked “US” on one side and “1899” on the other. True edge has two moderate nicks.
The hilt has a bird head iron pommel and a flat iron guard with “o” ring. The wood grips are in good condition with light to moderate wear. The attachment button and mechanism are missing. Hilt is in otherwise good condition.
The steel scabbard is the Type 2 introduced in 1895. The scabbard surface is free of dents and has light mottling on its surface. Scabbard has a ball shaped finial. Frog shows some blue and scattered surface rust. [ad] [ph:L]
