Presented here is a fine pair of military, heavy cast brass stirrups in excellent original condition and carries the Rock Island Arsenal stamping. Referred to as the Model 1904 artillery stirrup, these artifacts are dated on the bottom of the tread with “R.I.A. / U. S. / 1906” and each piece measures 5¼” high by 4¾” wide. It is believed that these type of equestrian accoutrements were issued with the M1904 McClellan artillery harness saddles. Each stirrup has a ½” thick tread that features an iron top plate inset into the brass surface at the time of casting. The pad or tread surfaces exhibit a sharp front and rear edge on each stirrup. Stirrups exhibit a fine, mellow bronze patina overall with just normal dings from age and use. An excellent pair of early 20th century brass artillery stirrups.
