Very nice, clean bust view CDV of John McBroom sporting a moustache and beard and wearing a frock coat with Captains shoulder straps. Image is signed in ink on the bottom front with “YOURS TRULY, J. D. McBROOM 106TH NYV-TO COUSIN LOU.” Photographers imprint on back is “CROSS PHOTOGRAPHER, FT. RICHARDSON, VA.” Mount and image are as clean as can be.
John D. McBroom was 26 years old when he enlisted in Co. L, 9th New York Cavalry as a Sergeant on October 16, 1861 but he was not mustered in till November 2nd. He was discharged on April 9, 1862. He is carried on the rolls of the 9th as John D. McBrown.
McBroom was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant of Co. K, 106th New York Infantry on August 27, 1862 and promoted to Captain on January 29, 1863. The 106th New York served in the Shenandoah Valley until just after the battle of Gettysburg when it joined the Army of the Potomac. The regiment served in the 6th Corps from the Wilderness to Appomattox. Captain McBroom was discharged on January 13, 1865.
