William Buel Franklin (February 27, 1823 – March 8, 1903) was born in York, PA, and was a career Army officer and a Union Army general in the Civil War. He rose to command the 6th Corps in the Army of the Potomac, fighting in all notable battles up to and including Fredericksburg. He was later assigned to command the 19th Corps out west. He was wounded at Mansfield, Louisiana, and was replaced. He also distinguished himself as a civil engineer before and after the war.
Franklin died in Hartford, Connecticut, on March 8, 1903, and was buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, Pennsylvania. [jet] [PH:L]
