Bust view of Schaumburg as a Lt. Colonel. He wears a military frock with two stars on the collar. The image is clear with very good contrast. Photographer's backmark, J. Gurney & Son, NY. An ink note on the back, "To Jack with the love of a [?] Schaumburg. Lt. Col. & c. C.S.A." A 2-cent revenue stamp is also on the back.
Wright C. Schaumburg (1843 - 1896) of St. Louis was commissioned as a Captain in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States (Missouri State Guard) on December 12, 1861 as Quartermaster and Commissary. On June 24, 1862 appointed to Adjutant General's Department. By February of 1863 he is A.A.G. for General Van Dorn. In May 1863 he is assigned to General Johnston's staff and by October 1863 he is on Kirby Smith's staff. By 1864 he is quickly promoted to Major and then Lt. Colonel.
Schaumburg died on July 9, 1896 and is buried in Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana.
