CDV is a three-quarter standing view of James L. Sheehan. He is wearing a dark colored frock coat, white shirt and cravat. Bottom of mount is marked with a handwritten inscription in period ink, “YOUR FOND FATHER”.
The reverse does not have a photographer’s imprint but has information about Sheehan written in pencil.
Image is clear and the contrast is good but has slightly faded. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.
James L. Sheehan, born in Ireland, was a resident of Elgin, Illinois. On September 5, 1862 he was mustered into Co. “C”, 127th Illinois Infantry. Listed as wounded at Vicksburg on 5/19/63, and hospitalized (sick) at Nashville on 2/28/65. He was mustered out on June 6, 1865. The 127th served at Vicksburg, Resaca, Georgia, and Bentonville during Sherman’s campaign in the Carolinas. Sheehan was a member of the Elgin, IL GAR Post #49 after war, and died on 3/11/1906. He is buried in Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin. [sm/ld]
