New Edition, Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1855. Owner inscription in both volumes, in front eps, in pencil: “Frank Davis / of Harrisburg / June 1856 / military academy / West Point N.Y.”  Vol. 1, 202  pp. w/ plates & music; Vol. II, 228 pp, w/plates. Both in brown & black buckram, 5.75” x 3.75, w/gilt spine lettering.  Exhibits traces of light foxing within, and light wear without. Else VG and entirely legible.

A native Pennsylvanian and an 1861 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, Frank Asbury Davies was commissioned  2nd Lieutenant into the 2nd U.S. Light Artillery, 5/6/181, and to 1st Lieutenant, 5/17/1861.  On 9/27/1861 he was promoted to Captain and transferred to the 16th U.S. Infantry. On 8/30/ 1862 he received  promotion to Major (by brevet), for gallantry in action at 2nd Bull Run, VA. He resigned from the army, 11/21/ 1968.
