Book is titled “HYMN BOOK FOR THE ARMY AND NAVY” published by the U.S. Christian Commission in Cincinnati, Ohio during the Civil War.

Volume is softbound with a green paper cover and brown cloth tape type of spine. Cover is decorated with a waving U.S. Flag. Back cover reads “PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES CHRISTIAN COMMISSION, CINCINNATI BRANCH, 51 VINE STREET.”

Interior is in good condition with scattered pencil notations. First blank page and title page has child-like drawings of several Army Corps badges as well as some scribbling inside the back cover. Volume meas. 3.00 x 4.25 inches and runs 96 pages.

First blank page has some period pencil scribbling along with “WILLIAM H. GREEN / CO. F. 45 REG N.Y.S.V.V. / NASHVILLE / TENN.”

William H. Green was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was 20 years old when he enlisted as a private in the 45th New York Infantry at Nashville, Tennessee on February 15, 1865. Records show he was transferred  to Company F of the 58th New York on June 30, 1865 and was mustered out on October 1, 1865.  [AD][ph:L]
