Colorful pre-printed memorial measures approx. 19” x 26”. Large wing spread American eagle at the top with stars, riband, arrows, shield & olive branches. Center shield with details of his service surrounded by hand colored shoulder boards of rank, chevrons and corps badges. Center with Pennsylvania state seal. Center history, “ENLISTED IN NATIONAL BLUES WEST CHESTER (PA) FROM 1832-35. IN 1848 JOINED THE “NATIONAL GUARDS”…Appointed 1st Sgt… serving until April 1861. When the war broke out he was one of the first to volunteer at then nearly 60 years of age. Elected 2nd Lt Co. A 9th PA Vols on April 24, 1861. He musters out July 29, 1861. In Aug. 1862 he joined Co. E of the 124th PA Infantry as 2nd Lt., becomes 1st Lt. Sept. 15, 1862 and Captain Oct. 31, 1862. He participates in the Maryland Campaign, recon to Shenandoah Valley, Burnside’s 2nd Campaign, Chancellorsville Campaign, and the battle of Chancellorsville. He musters out May 15, 1863. Bottom riband gives his GAR Post 31 West Chester. Some water staining and soiling. Original frame and mat, measures approx. 22” x 31”. Frame has some damage and needs a cleaning & some TLC. Note: Frame contains glass. Special care is required in the shipment of framed items, both modern and vintage. Because this item has glass in the frame, we would prefer to disassemble the backing in order to remove the glass. This means that the backing and the glass will be removed and the frame will be shipped without the glass; it is the customer's responsibility to replace it if desired and have the backing put back on. Any frame shop should be able to do this for you.
