Quantity Available: None

Item Code: E2644

ID’d grouping purchased directly from family members of Private Frank Carlin, Company D, 1st Regt. Delaware Vol. Inf. In the group are a framed soldier’s memorial to Carlin’s company with his name included. Modern frame measures 21 1/8” x 24 ¾”. Print has several folds and minor tears. The word ‘Infantry’ is spelled “Innantry”, first spelling mistake we’ve ever seen on a memorial.

Unframed tintype view of Pvt. Carlin holding what appears to be a Colt Army Special Double Action Revolver. Wears a US Pattern 1874 enlistedman’s buckle/belt, and a Span-Am campaign hat and campaign shirt! Photo has cracking to finish.

Also included is an Import Model 1862 Cavalry Officer’s Sword. Family story is that in the early part of the 20th century, Private Carlin was given this sword to wear in a parade. When the parade was over no one asked for the sword back so Carlin kept it and used it every year for parades. In totally untouched condition. Unmarked blade is semi-gray with some areas of surface grime/age spots. Scabbard has untouched appearance with a dark olive patina. All brass mounts intact. Hilt is standard type with American eagle, stars/sunrays with typical floral design on branch. Leather grip intact with minor wear spot. Missing wire wrap.

Nice identified group from Delaware.  [ws]
