Leather bound “Company Morning Reports” book, measures 10.5” x 14.5”. Pages are pre-printed forms to be filled in by some poor clerk. These pages are completed in ink for Company B, 13th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment. Reports begin for the month of June 1863 and run through July of 1864; the regiment was mustered out of service on August 1st. Information included is essentially how many men are available for duty each day of the month with any specific notes.

The book has suffered from poor storage. The spine is broken and many of the pages from the first signature are loose, many of the loose pages exhibiting brittle edges with some damage. Following signatures remain bound and are in good condition. All information in ink remains very readable. The thin book leather on the cover is well worn and slightly degraded.

The 13th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was formed on July 16, 1861, at Fort Independence in Boston, Massachusetts. It was engaged in all major engagements of the Eastern Theater. For the months covered in this book of reports, the 13th was part of the First and Fifth Corps in the Army of the Potomac and fought at Gettysburg and in Grant’s Overland Campaign of 1865.
