BULLET FORCEPS FROM EDGEWATER MARYLAND

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1246-12

These scissor form bullet forceps are hinged at the middle permitting them to remain closed and narrow while inserted into a wound until reaching a projectile when they can be opened slightly to secure it in the elongated cup ends at the tip and draw it out. These show surface rust and corrosion, but are solid and in good condition. We have not identified the specific pattern. They have an old cloth label with an ink identification reading: “Col. Louis Marie / Edgewater Md.” This is certainly Col. Louis Eugene Marie, Jr. (accent grave on the e,) of Edgewater (1897-1959) whose rank derives from service in the USMC. There may be a family connection to a surgeon or doctoer, but he apparently had some antiquarian interests, being credited in a 1954 book about Confederate spy Rose O’Neal Greenhow. His father seems to have served in the US Navy in the Spanish American War and again in World War One.  [sr][ph:L]
