These three exquisite pen and ink drawings would enhance any infantry display. The first drawing shows a well used war veteran, the soldier's cup. The execution of the dents in the side of the cup is perfect. This drawing is on a piece of paper that meas. approx. 7.0x4.5" with the actual size of the drawing being 3.0x2.0". The next subject is the soldier's cupboard, the haversack. Prescott has drawn it as if it was hanging on a hook and filled with the gastronomical horrors that passed for a soldier's fare. The paper it is rendered on meas. approx. 5.25x7.25". The drawing itself meas. approx.5.25x3.50". The back of this paper has a drawing Prescott started but did not finish. It is of a long handled shovel resting against some earthworks. He slashed heavy black lines through this drawing. The last item is the indispensable canteen. The canteen in the drawing is of the smooth-side variety and is, like the haversack, shown as if hanging on a hook. The paper it is on meas. approx. 5.0x7.75" while the drawing itself is approx. 3.50x6.50".

Samuel Prescott enlisted into Co. D 4th New Hampshire Vol. as a Corporal on September 18, 1861. He eventually rose to the rank of 1st Lt. in the same company. The 4th New Hampshire served in the Department of the South in Florida and South Carolina and as part of 18th and 10th Corps, Army of the James.
