Photo is not mounted. It meas. approx. 7.00 x 9.25 inches. This is a delightful shot of Mom, Dad (or maybe Grandpa and Grandma) and 5 kids resting at Devil’s Den. Dad, in his typical dark suit, is leaning against a boulder while Mom is seated a little above and in front of Dad. Mom wears a striped blouse with a dark skirt and plain dark hat. The youngest child, a girl, sits between Mom and Dad on top of a small boulder. She wears a dark dress while Mom holds her white hat with flower. Working up the rock formation we find the oldest child, another girl seated very properly in a dark dress with white lace collar and polka dot belt. Her wide-brimmed floral decorated hat is on her lap. Standing next to her is her sister, maybe a year or two younger. She leans against a large rock wearing her fancy hat with light colored dress.
Seated in a crevice of the rock a little above his sister is a young boy. Maybe 6 or 7 years old wearing dark socks, light knickers and coat with a plaid “jockey cap.” He holds his head in his hands and looks bored out of his mind. Way up in another rock crevice about 10 or 15 feet from everyone else is another boy. He is perhaps 9 or 10 years old. He wears a dark suit and straw hat and is posed with one arm resting on his hip. He looks very pleased with himself. The image is clear with good contrast and appears to date from the 1890’s. The only flaw is on the rock above the group. It looks as though the negative had chemical stains on it when the image was printed and these show up on the rocks above the group. Perhaps that is why it was never mounted.
