View is mounted on gray stock with “UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD” and publishing information on the edges. Caption reads “CONFEDERATE SHARPSHOOTERS POSITION ABOVE DEVIL’S DEN-E. TO FIRECELY CONTESTED LITTLE ROUND TOP, GETTYSBURG”. Reverse of card is blank except for handwritten “#1” and “#5544”. Contrast is very good and the card is clean. Image shows a man crouching and looking into a crevice between two large boulders with a wall built in its front. This image is published as Image 91e in William A. Frassanito’s book “EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY AT GETTYSBURG.” This “sharpshooters” position is well known to students of the battle.
