Early photography of the Gettysburg Battlefield serves as an important record of the evolution of the park and its expansive grounds.  Shown in this image are the 13th Vermont and Vermont State Monuments, to the east of Hancock Avenue.  The monument marking the wounding site of General Hancock can be seen in full at right.

The photo is mounted to a light gray card with a decorative pattern and solid line double border.  The paper photo is in nice condition, with only a single (very small) glue stain at upper right.  All corners and edges are sharp and securely mounted. Very minor wear is noted at the card’s corners to include outer layer loss.  There is very slight rolling along localized edge areas. The reverse is free of stains and surface dirt, with mild edge wear at left and bottom.  A series of penciled numbers and notations reads “AWb 5334/$85/12-07-06e6/HANCOCK AVE LOOKING South/L=STANNARD’S Brigade 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 VT. INF./R=13th VT. Inf./MOUNT = 8x10/Photo = 5x7/228 G101”. These measurements hold true.  No photographer is credited.

This is a nice, large photograph of Gettysburg, taken either very shortly before or soon after the turn of the 20th Century.  A wonderful collectible for the Gettysburg and Civil War enthusiast that would display well. [cm][ph:L]
