In 1887, a local resident erected the GAR Tower on East Cemetery Hill, which fell into disrepair in 1879 upon his death.  It was a hub of veteran activity during its short life and served as an excellent platform for viewing the National Cemetery.

This shot mirrors many early postcard prints from Gettysburg and shows the expansive cemetery as it was in the 1870’s.  The Baltimore Pike is clearly shown, as is the monument to General Reynolds at the eastern entrance to the Cemetery.

The photo is mounted to an off-white card and both are in excellent condition.  The reverse is clean and blank. Overall measurements are 7.6” x 10.4”.

This photo dates to the decade following the battle of Gettysburg and would display very nicely.  A remarkable piece of the photographic history of the battlefield for any collector.  [cm][ph:L]
