This striking photograph shows an unidentified group of men and women, posed among the boulders of Devil’s Den. The youngest among the men are middle-aged, with some appearing to be a bit older, suggesting that this photo was taken during a reunion in or near Gettysburg. The style of clothing suggests the latter 1800’s and is typical formal Victorian.  The young vegetation beginning to grow around the rocks would date this from 1-2 decades post-battle.

A nice contrast highlights everyone, and the location of the photograph is easily found today within Gettysburg National Military Park.

The photo comes in an antique frame, likely the original, which is in fair condition – it holds the photo but is chipped along the outer facing edges of the frame that holds the glass and some of the backing mounting clips have fallen out.  The frame measures 15” x 19”.

All told, this is a great chance to collect a piece of likely GAR memorabilia with an indisputable connection to the battle of Gettysburg.  [cm][ph:L]
