28th Pennsylvania Infantry Monument Dedication photo in frame with wood backing. The image shows a large group of surviving veterans and their guests. The photo is identified at the bottom center as “28th PV Gettysburg September 12th 1889”. The monument is located on Slocum Ave. Sept 11 & 12 1889 were referred to as Pennsylvania Day on the battlefield with no fewer than 53 memorials being dedicated. The photographer, Riles & Co of Philadelphia was present during the busy battlefield memorialization years of 1888 and 1889. The image is 12” x 17” and frame is 16.5” x 22.5”. The monument was originally dedicated in 1885 but the large 5 pointed star was added for the 1889 re-dedication. There is minor staining in a few places on the backing board but the image is not affected. The attractive frame has a few perimeter chips where the underlying plaster is exposed but otherwise in very good condition. [dm][ph:L]
