This is a relic condition hammer from a Sharps carbine. Slotted screw head remains in place with a small piece of the broken shaft sticking out the back side. Rusty iron surface but no deep pitting.
This is easily identified as coming from a Sharps carbine because of the machined cutouts found on the “inside” face. These were needed to work the Lawrence pellet priming system.
Nice cavalry relic from East Cavalry Field, Battle of Gettysburg. [jet] [ph:L]
