This resin piece is a copy of the monument erected by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the 9th Pennsylvania Reserves (38th Pennsylvania Infantry) for their valor at Gettysburg. The monument was dedicated in 1890.
Today the monument sits south of Gettysburg, northwest of Warren and Sykes Avenue at the south foot of Little Round Top. The 9th Reserve was revered for aiding Sykes’s 5th Corps in holding off Confederate troops at Cemetery Ridge and Little Roundtop.
This replica monument stands approximately 8 ¾” tall 5 1/8” across the base. It is complete with all the text and imagery that is found on the original monument including a brief list of regiment engagements on the back of the piece.
These were produced by Gary Casteel who is well known for his talent in producing copies of monuments on the field and his pieces are much sought after. [LD] [ph:L]
