This excavated plate has a brass face with a somewhat crusty surface over a green patina. The plate retains its “heart” shape but has a few wrinkles along bottom edge. The reverse has about 75% of the lead fill; all loss is along lower edge. Brass attachment wires are broken off. Plate marked with “Railroad Cut / Gettysburg”.
This relic was recovered by Charlie Rhodes and came from the collection of author/Park Ranger Greg Coco.
A very nice “Gettysburg dug” Martingale plate. [jet][ph:L]
