This three-piece coat button features the New York state seal on the face. There is a push in the face which still shows about 40% gilt remaining over a nice brown patina. Straight shank with Scovill backmark.
This was recovered from Excelsior Field on the Gettysburg battlefield by local resident John Cullison, who excavated relics on the field from 1935-1959. Cullison sold his finds to the famed Gettysburg Rosensteel family, who held the primary collection of Gettysburg artifacts and ran the Electric Map Museum. [mc] [ph:L]
