This light blue silk has raw edges top and bottom, with some minor folds at the top showing it was simply pinned on a lapel. “Gettysburg Excursion.” Is printed in black above the Greek Cross insignia of the Sixth Army Corps superimposed on a sunburst background. The date “October 4-12, 1886” is printed in black at the bottom. The name of the organization sponsoring the trip is not specified, but the corps badge suggests it is G.A.R. group or veterans’ organization associated with that unit. It is likely the ribbon is connected with the “excursion” to Gettysburg of veterans of the 7th, 10th and 37th Massachusetts Volunteers to dedicate their monuments. These were all Sixth Corps units and their trip was slated for the “first full week” in October and began October 4, 1886, according to a pamphlet published to commemorate the occasion.

Very minor stains at top. Otherwise very good condition.   [SR][ph:L]
