View was done by H. E. Weaver of Washington, D.C. and shows the monument to the 9th Michigan Battery on Hancock Ave across from the Pennsylvania Memorial at Gettysburg.
The view is taken from the left front of the monument looking south down Cemetery Ridge. The muzzle of a cannon is just visible along the left edge.
Contrast and clarity are good. Mount has some minor staining in the upper right corner. Paper is excellent.
The reverse has a small paper label with Weavers name in the lower left corner and a larger printed label at upper right that reads “GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD, BLOODY ANGLE, 9 MICH BATTERY” with “1906” in pencil.
The 9th Michigan fired 322 rounds during the battle and suffered casualties of one man killed, 4 wounded with also 23 horses being killed.
The monument was erected in 1888. [ad] [PH:L]
