Here is a “dug” button from Gettysburg. It is a Massachusetts state seal coat button, 23mm. Good detail on the face but no gilt remaining. Black patina, so likely was from a fire pit. Straight shank, “STEELE & JOHNSON” backmark.

Recovered at the of the Union 3^rd Corps Field Hospital by Ed Miller.

The 3^rd Corps set up their hospital on a portion of the Jacob Schwartz Farm near White Run. This was near and somewhat intermingled with the 2^nd Corps Hospital. The 3^rd Corps Hospital grew to hold over 2500 wounded Union and Confederate soldiers.  [jet] [PH:L]
