Image shows a group of approx. 20 men, women and children seated on an artillery lunette at the position of Rickett’s Battery on East Cemetery Hill. From the clothing being worn the group appears to be from the early 1900’s.
In the immediate background can be seen the monument for Rickett’s Battery with the equestrian statue of General Hancock behind it. In the left background are the guns and monument of Cooper’s Battery B, 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery and in the right background is the monument to the 14th Indiana Infantry.
The image meas. approx. 9.00 x 7.00 inches and is mounted on a light brown card stock meas. approx. 12.00 x 10.00. Caption at bottom center reads “TIPTONS GETTYSBURG PHOTOGRAPHS.” This is flanked by “W. H. TIPOTON PHTO.” On one side and “GETTYSBURG, PA." on the other.
Contrast and clarity are good. Image is marked "4292 ON EAST CEMETERY HILL."
Mount has chipped right corners while there are numerous dark stains along the edges.
Reverse has a mounted Union cavalryman with advertising for Tipton Studios. [ad] [PH:L]
