Paperbound volume with a red 1st Division, 6th Corps badge on the front with the title in black on blue paper. Volume meas. approx. 5.75 x 9.00 inches and runs 83 pages.
Booklet is the report of the committee organized to oversee the erection of a regimental monument at Gettysburg. There are several photos of the monument from different angles as well as three photos of the veterans of the 121st posed in front of the monument. There is also a bust view photo of the regiment’s former leader Colonel Emory Upton.
The text of this little volume includes the dedicatory address when the monument was dedicated as well as a list of all members who donated to the monument fund and various reports submitted during the process.
The covers of the volume show moderate dirt, ink spots and wear from age and storage. Binding and interior are good and this booklet could be read if desired.
Inside front cover is an old ink stamping that reads “BRAYTON G. PRIEST, EVANS MILLS, JEFFERSON CO. N.Y.”
Brayton George Priest was born in Brownville, New York on September 25, 1843. He was 18 years old when he enlisted as a private in Company A, 121st New York Volunteers on August 22, 1862. He was promoted to corporal on January 1, 1864 and was wounded June 20, 1864 at Petersburg. He was sent to DeCamp General Hospital at David’s Island, New York and was discharged there on June 15, 1865.
Priest died on March 4, 1919 at Colonie, New York and is buried in New Evans Mills Cemetery in Evans Mills, New York. [AD]
