Button depicts the state seal of Massachusetts with one arm holding a sword aloft, and “MASSACHUSETTS VOLUNTEER MILITIA”. Worn by officers of Massachusetts units. Backmark: “Extra Quality”; shank is bent. Face of button has remains of the gilt finish along the edges. Push on face, pin holes along edge. Recovered along the Emmitsburg Road in the position of the 15th Mass. Vol. Inf. Recovered by local resident and relic hunter Ron Miller. He was the brother of Ed Miller, well known local relic hunter who amassed a large Gettysburg collection. [ws]
