Panoramic albumen photograph was taken at the General Meade monument on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Photo dates to 1917-18 during World War I. At that time the battlefield was home to Camp Colt and the Camp of Instruction.
Lower left corner is embossed with photographer’s name, “M.F. WILLIAMS”. Marian F. Williams, a resident of Gettysburg, was a well-known photographer of the national park for 40 years. He was also the photographer for the Carlisle barracks. Williams passed away in 1929.
Measures 8” by 39”. Yellowing and creasing are present, with some chipping on the edges. Shows two very small tears, one at the left edge and one on the right side of photo, along with a 1 ½” long tear inward from the upper left edge. [sl]
