Image is taken looking south from the Ziegler’s Grove observation deck which no longer stands.
Along the left edge of the photo is the area of the Union Artillery Reserve east of the Taneytown Road. The middle background shows Big and Little Round Top and in the right distance is the Peach Orchard, the fields of Pickett’s Charge, the Codori Farm and Seminary Ridge.
Visible in the right middle background is the large hospital tent and part of the camp for veterans attending the 50th Reunion of the battle of Gettysburg.
Also visible in the center middle background is The Angle, the US Regulars Monument, Hancock and Webb Avenues, Meade’s statue and the Pennsylvania monument not to mention numerous smaller monuments and several automobiles.
Right side has small photographer’s mark that reads NORT H. LOSEY PHOTOGRAPHER / INDIANAPOLIS IND. / 1913. At bottom center is the captions “THE GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD / PANORAMA FROM ZIEGLER’S GROVE OBSERVATORY / LOOKING SOUTH.”
Image is in very nice condition. It with one area of light contrast near the right edge. The rest is good. In the original frame is meas. approx. 43.50 x 7.75 inches. Frame has several nicks to the finish and the paper on the back is loose but the image is still tightly in place. [ad]
