Image shows members of Company I, 58th US Infantry lined up in front of their tents and barracks on the Gettysburg battlefield.

Image was taken by M. F. Williams and meas. approx. 40.00 x 7.25 inches. Image has two or three faint vertical creases, some light surface dirt and is a little short for its frame but otherwise is good with excellent contrast and clarity.

The members of the Company pictured are wearing their campaign hats and holding their rifles. The lower left corner has caption that reads “CO. I, 58th U.S. INFT. REGT. AT GETTYSBURG, PA. 1917.”

Back of the image has a backing that is held in place by gray duct tape that has come loose along one edge. A modern paper label on the back reads “BEFORE CAMP COLT- CAMP OF THE 58TH INFANTRY ON THE GROUNDS OF PICKETT’S CHARGE BEFORE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CAMP COLT-THE TANK CORPS SCHOOL OF INSTRUCTION.”

The 58th US Infantry became part of the 4th Infantry Division and saw action with the American Expeditionary Force at Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and the Muse-Argonne.  [ad]
