Framed the item meas. approx. 15.50 x 14.00 inches. This hand-drawn image shows the Codori farm in the right middle distance with the Emmitsburg Road running along the right edge. The view is looking southwest from the observation platform that once stood in Zeigler’s Grove. The artist sketched part of the field through which Pickett’s Charge passed. Hancock Ave is not visible though a few monuments and a car are seen along the left edge. The Sherfy farm and the Peach Orchard are also visible.
This drawing is similar to a photograph we recently sold (Item 945-07) and is looking in the same direction and drawn from the same location as the photograph.
The colors in the drawing are excellent and the landscape detail is good. Hand printed across the bottom of the drawing is “PART OF BATTLEFIELD OF GETTYSBURG, CONTAINING CODORI HOUSE. BY A. S. ROSENBERGER 1923.” Drawing is in a gold wood frame with a brownish-green mat. Actual image size is 9.50 x 7.75 inches.
Condition is excellent. Paper backing on the reverse of the frame is torn in a few places across the top but this does not hurt the drawing at all. [AD]
