Image of children standing in front of the Round Top School, mounted on heavy stock. Bottom of mount is marked with the photographer’s imprint, “MUMPER & CO. / BATTLEFIELD PHOTOGRAPHERS / GETTYSBURG”.
Levi Mumper was one of the principal photographers of the Gettysburg battlefield and monuments. Mumper worked with R.C. Miller to publish Historical Views of Gettysburg, and in the book, all of the half tone photos were credited to Mumper. The publish date is 1906, which would fit, because Jacob Ira Mumper took over from his father Levi in 1895, and ran the business until 1911, when he gave it to his brothers Clyde and John. Jacob Mumper went on to be the "custodian" of the Jennie Wade Museum.
Round Top School was a brick one-room schoolhouse established in 1889. It closed in 1948, and is still standing today. Image has small chips on the edges, a 2” tear at the top center and a ½” tear at the right side. Image with mount measures 8” x 9 ½”. [SM]
