The Gettysburg Electric Railway was a trolley system that existed from September 1893 - November 1916. It ran from town and to different places on the battlefield. This ticket is marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE WHEATFIELD TO DEVIL’S DEN, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of Devil’s Den. Reverse of ticket features an image of Devil’s Den after the battle with bodies of soldiers lying on the rocks.
Ticket has yellowed with age but images are clear. Ticket was punched on the top left side with a cross shaped hole punch. There is a crease mark near the bottom where ticket was folded at on time.
Ticket measures 2 ¾” x 1 ¾”.
This is a nice vintage collectible of early Gettysburg memorabilia.
