Cane meas. approx. 32.50 inches long. When the cane was made the wood was sanded and had the words “ROUND TOP” burned into it near the top along with some circular and dot decorations before being coated with a clear finish. The wood has several knots which give it character.
The upper end of the piece is very smooth due to handling. The bottom third of the cane is fitted with a brass sleeve. The bottom of the sleeve shows some signs of wear but overall has a wonderful patina.
Canes of this type were produced by local Gettysburg residents from wood on the battlefield for sale to veterans.
