Mosin –Nagant rifles were developed at Tula by Sergi Mosin. The feed system was developed by Leon Nagant.

They were manufactured by Russia as well as Remington, Westinghouse, and Chatellerault. They have a box magazine that holds five shots of 7.62x54mm rimmed ammunition. Barrel was 31.6 inches long with a leaf rear sight. Stocks were made from walnut and were made without upper hand guards until after post 1908 when hand guards were added as well as sling swivels mounted through slots in the butt.

Mostly during 1915 Austro-Hungarian forces on the Eastern front captured sizable quantities of Russian Mosin Nagant M1891 rifles, and also received large numbers taken by the Germans. All captured and inspected rifles were marked with 'AZF' (Artillerie Zeugs Fabrik) and/or 'OEWG' (OEsterreichische Waffenfabrik Gesellschaft) on the receiver.

The AZF marked guns in Austro-Hungarian service were issued with captured 7.62x54r Russian ammunition. When supplies begun to run short, more than 50,000 guns were converted (rebored or rebarreled) in the Wiener-Neustadt armory for the standard rimmed M93 8x50mm Austrian round. epetier-Gewehr'. The rifles also has wire sling swivels added and the sling swivel in the butt removed as was the common practice with all Russian weapons captured and reissued by Austro-Hungary.

This is a AZF marked Mosin-Nagant rifle. Receiver is dated 1905 and serial number N42557. Bolt is number 32150 and the box is stamped 140466 as well as numerous marking throughout the weapon. Leaf sight is marked 4-6-8-10-12. Wood is good and the bore is good.
