The Model 1842 rifled muskets are smooth bore muskets that have been rifled by Springfield and Harpers Ferry armories. Between 1856 and 1859 over 14,000 barrels have been rifled and 10,000 have been fitted with long range sights.
This is one of the altered Model 1842 Harpers Ferry. Lockplate is marked with an American eagle motif over the U.S., and HARPERS / FERRY / 1855. The breech of the barrel is marked with V/ P over eagle head and the date 1854. All the metal is a bright finish. Walnut wood is sanded and refinished. Bore is bright and has good rifling. Original long-range sight.
