Whitney Arms Company in New Haven, CT produced the .58 caliber “Whitneyville”. The iron surfaces are a dusky gunmetal gray patina. Markings “Eagle” over U.S. in the center and WHITNEYVILLE on the forward lock. The date “1863 is marked to the rear of the lock. Crisp working lock. Barrel marks “VP/ Eagle” are visible but the date is not. Inspector initial “T AW” on the side of the barrel. The rear sight is complete and functional. The ramrod is original. The bore has good rifling but does have pitting. The dark walnut stock has some nicks and scratches from normal use and handling and a cartouche is visible. 15,000 “Whitneyville’s” were manufactured during the Civil War.
